Feel, listen, and dance to groovy tunes from the past.
1st Wednesday of every month. 8pm Tickets $10
Way back in the days of yore (like, in the late 80s) a dance club called The Empire on Yonge just north of College held a weekly dance party called "Psychedelic Wednesdays." They weren't particularly strict about checking ID, and I spent a lot of good times there as a very underage high school student on a lot of acid...
This is more or less a straight-up ripoff of that event, except we check ID because this is not the late 1980s.
Here's an article about the Empire, as far as I know, the only trace of Psychedelic Wednesdays on the Internet: https://thenandnowtoronto.com/2014/12/then-now-empire-dancebar/
Expect MOST of the music to be 60s/70s shit AND/OR psychedelic, or somehow related, or just good music we feel like playing for some reason. Expect to hear "Black Betty" for some reason because they always played it at the Empire. There may even be occasional disco, heaven forfend. Don't expect some sort of SUPER-PURITY-FOCUSED-PSYCHEDELIC-THING and freak out if you hear something that doesn't totally meet the dictionary definition of "psychedelic music", if there is one. We don't care if there is one, and we're gonna play what we want, which is basically what they did at the Empire way back when anyway.
Anyway: a low key, non-pretentious old school/psychedelic dance party (if you want it). Dance like you're in high school on acid or whatever. In the basement because everything in Toronto in the 80s was kind of divey like that. Also because we can be louder there.
Or just hang around upstairs with Kevin.
Music starts at around 8pm, will go to at least midnight, maybe longer depending on the night.
